Herbert E. Spaeth, 96, of Chippewa Falls, died Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at Dove Healthcare West in Eau Claire.
Herbert was born August 31, 1920 in the town of Edson, the son of John and Cresentia (Farbaer) Spaeth. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1942 to 1946.
On February 2, 1946, Herbert married Mabel Mickelson in Decorah, Iowa. He was a member of Notre Dame Church where he served as an usher for many years.
Herbert grew up farming then later worked at the Leinenkugel’s Brewery for 37 years. He enjoyed working outdoors and playing cards with friends and family.
Herbert is survived by his wife, Mabel; three sons, John (Cynthia) and Gary (Kathleen) both of Chippewa Falls and Mark (Londa) of Pigeon Falls; one daughter, Ann (Kyle) Laramy of Colfax; one brother, Raymond Spaeth of Jim Falls; nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Herbert was preceded in death by one son, Thomas in infancy; his parents; six brothers, Clarence, Michael, Henry, Charlie, Imbert and Henry Spaeth; and three sisters, Dorothy Frederich, Rose Wittrock and Margaret Swoboda.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 14 at Notre Dame Church in Chippewa Falls. Rev. Jesse Burish will be celebrant of the funeral Mass. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Chippewa Falls. Military rites will be conducted by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, August 13 and from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the Horan Funeral Home in Chippewa Falls. There will be a Christian vigil service at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
