Paul T. Becker Jr., 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 12, 2017 at River Pines in Altoona.
He was born in Galesville, WI at his home to Paul and Allie Becker on December 5, 1927.
Paul lived in Galesville and graduated from Galesville High School. Paul then attended Winona Teacher’s College but was drafted out of college into the Army 15th Air Force. After serving he went to the University of Wisconsin, Madison under the GI Bill of WWII. He majored in Civil Engineering. He worked his summers for the WI department of Transportation doing surveying and supervising construction of highway and bridges.
After college he married Lorraine Haugen of Whitehall, WI and took a job with the U.S. Department of the Interior, the Alaska Road Commission as an Engineer doing survey and construction of highways, bridges, and various design projects at the universities and the Department of Natural Resources. Paul also administered aid on storm disasters for the Federal Government Emergency Management Administration know as FEMA. He was a registered professional engineer, as well as a registered and certified soil tester and land surveyor.
Paul is survived by his wife, Lorraine; two children: Ruth “Cooky” (Gary) Oas of Elk Creek Lake and Paul “Rocky” (Teresa) Becker of Elk Creek Lake; grandchildren: Dr. Mark (Sarah) Oas, Mitchell Oas, Jeff (Cassandra) Becker, and Rebecca (Paul) Burcaw; five great–grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Ethan, Payton, Brooks, Bronson, and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Allie, siblings, Howard, Carole Root, Ruth Haefner, and Esther Olson.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at Truax Church, 1008 50th Street, Eau Claire at 11:00 a.m.. with Pastor David Stratten officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at Stokes, Prock, and Mundt Funeral Chapel, Altoona from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and again on Thursday one hour prior to the service at church.
Burial will take place at the Evergreen Cemetery in Elk Mound. Military Honors will be performed by American Legion Post 53.
