Derek Helgeson

Derek John Helgeson left this earth on April 28, 2017.

He was born on July 19, 1977 to John and Gayle Helgeson. He graduated from Memorial High School in 1996. Derek joined his parents working for Oak Ridge Village since he was 18 years old. Derek’s passion in life was drawing, sculpting, and writing a book. He was very smart and talented in everything he did. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his nieces and nephews. Derek was kind and gentle and loved by everyone who knew him.

Derek was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joseph and Elvina Helgeson, Rolland and Leora Wood; his uncles: Joseph Helgeson and Gary Rongholt; his aunts: Joan Nyseth, Darlene Rongholt; cousins: Douglas Helgeson, Dustin Helgeson, Paul and Joel Kohls.

He is survived by his parents; sisters: Renee (David) Hazuga and Jodie Helgeson; nieces: Desire’ (Matt Shearman), Megan, Baily, Sydney; nephews: Zachary, Shelton, Alexander, and Blake; three great nieces: Lily, Allie, and Kate; two great nephews: Owen and Miles; aunts and uncles: Eleanor Helgeson, Roger Nyseth, Rose (Monty) Loomis, Pearl (Joe) Berlin, Eldora (Mike) Ives, Diane (Richard) Josifek, David (Faye) Helgeson, Jeff Helgeson, Marsha (Pat) Poppe and Shannon (Larry) Berger; along with numerous cousins and special family and friends.

Celebration of Life for Derek will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2017, at First Presbyterian Church, 2112 Rudolph Road, Eau Claire at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Gordy Thorpe officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service.
